Ethletics

Inspired by my childhood, and my career of athleticism, I formed Ethletics Inc. in 2007 as a vehicle to work with athletes at an elite level, and to build community through sports.

After working with Keith Raniere during my time as a professional equestrian, I learned there was a lot more to being an elite athlete than I had ever imagined. Keith possesses a unique approach to developing excellence. Raniere’s model addresses all three of the components required for humans to excel in any arena; the physical, thought and emotional components. These three components work as a system, and while many models address any one aspect-or maybe even two-quite well, without working on all three aspects there is imbalance, and many limitations athletes experience are maintained.

I have watched athletes turn to unethical practices in an effort to reach the top, or to stay at the top, of their game. However, I do not think this is necessary, and believe that given other options athletes may choose differently. If we were to discover a new approach, the possibilities for what we, humanity, could accomplish in the field of athletics might be boundless.

I also believe sport can function as a medium for building community. Playing on a team, or even training with someone for an individual sport, is a wonderful way of building inspiring, valuable and enduring friendships.

I have recently become involved in Growsport, an athletic coaching and sport events promotional company based in Northern Ireland. Sylvie Lloyd, athlete, entrepreneur and long-time colleague, is utilizing tools created by Keith Raniere to help develop the company. Sylvie excels as a runner and as a personal athletic coach.

I remember having heroes when I was growing up – people I admired – and most of them were athletes. As an athlete myself, I continued to be inspired by these heroes. As I continue to be involved in sports, I’m striving to learn the boundaries of my capacity and expand them. Athleticism is a beautiful expression of how humanity can work together to raise each other up.
